Soil Carbon and Nitrogen Stocks under Agrosilvopastoral Systems with Different Arrangements in a Transition Area between Cerrado and Caatinga Biomes in Brazil

Production systems that promote the accumulation of soil organic matter (SOM) must be implemented to maintain sustainability agriculture, livestock, and forestry. Since increases in MOS content contribute improving chemical, physical, biological quality soil, as well helping reduce carbon emissions mitigate climate change. Therefore, objective this study was evaluate (SOC) nitrogen (N) stocks after implementation agrosilvopastoral (ASP) a Cerrado-Caatinga transition zone Brazil. Native vegetation (NV), regenerating stratum (RS), two arrangements ASP cultivating Cenchrus ciliaris L. intercropped with Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. × tereticornis Sm. hybrid (ASP1 ASP2), urophylla S.T. Blake grandis W. Mill ex Maiden (ASP3 ASP4) were evaluated. Soil C N humic fractions SOM evaluated at 0–10, 10–20, 20–30 cm depths. The introduction ASP2, ASP3, ASP4 an area previously occupied by low productivity pasture increased restored SOC levels found NV, depth 0–30 cm. higher systems, regardless arrangement studied. As result, provided accumulations ranged from 1.0 4.31 Mg ha?1 yr?1 0.33 0.36 yr?1. contents remained NV. hierarchical grouping principal component analysis showed efficient increasing over time. In conclusion, present identified integrated production can support land use intensification strategies based on sustainable low-carbon agriculture between Cerrado Caatinga biomes
